Award winning artists Jun Zhu was educated (and later taught) at two of China's most prestigious design Universities. Acclaimed in China, Zhu was later invited to teach at the university of California where he and his wife Song offered insight into their unique watercolor technique and their vision of articulating eastern culture with western medium. Their works have been showcased in galleries and exhibits all over the world and they have been featured in many publications.
Zhu Junxian is a man of few words and an introverted nature, preferring to express himself through his paintings. He was born in Shanghai in 1943 in this well-developed metropolis, in which many literati have been nurtured and gathered since ancient times and where they formed a long line of artistic schools, was of deep influence upon him from his childhood. At the Central Academy of Art and Design in Beijing, he was a top student with a natural grasp of basic painting techniques. Influenced more strongly by traditional Chinese ink painting, Zhu Junxian emphasizes the expressive nature of the watercolor medium, demonstrated in his series Region of Rivers and Lakes in which, using free brushstrokes, he conjures poetic pictures of China south of Yangtse River. His paintings have a lively air about them whether created en plain air or back in the studio from sketches made on his travels.
